An afternoon with Guha and Karthik Bala

This is your opportunity to hear from our friends, brothers Karthik and Guha Bala, who co-founded Vicarious Visions (VV) in 1991 while both were in high school in Rochester, NY. VV has since grown to become an industry-leading game developer, helping to shape popular culture around the world. In 2005 Vicarious Visions was acquired by Activision|Blizzard (NASDAQ: ATVI). Over the last 25 years, Vicarious Visions has developed and grown multi-billion dollar franchises such as Skylanders, Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk and more. VV’s games have garnered critical acclaim including the prestigious BAFTA, Nickelodeon Parent’s Choice, and numerous Game of the Year awards.

After leading Vicarious Visions for 25 years, the brothers transitioned out of the company to become entrepreneurs again. The formation of Velan Ventures is the first step in this new adventure. Both brothers enjoy mentoring entrepreneurs and start-up ventures.

Karthik holds degrees in Computer Science and Psychology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Guha holds an honors degree in Chemistry from Harvard University and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. They were honored as Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s “Entrepreneurs of the Year” in 2013.
