Cyberift borrows elements from top down shooters and brawlers as well as MOBAs. It takes place in an arena that is heavily inspired by the arenas in Tron. Each player is on their own team. There are AI “camps” scattered around a circular arena where players can fight enemies of varying strengths. Whenever an AI or player is killed, they drop an XP bit that when collected, will help a player level up. It is important to farm these camps to gain an advantage over other players.
When a player levels up, they can add an ability to an empty slot on their character. Each slot corresponds with a button. For instance, if a player levels up, they could add the dash ability to their shift key or add the slash ability to their space key. Knowing what abilities to use together is important as many abilities work well together. For instance, dashing at an opponent and then using a high damage melee ability like slash can be a good strategy. Or a player could place down a shield and use it to bank disc shots off of.
There is a duel mode where two players can fight 1v1. This game mode doesn’t have a time limit but consists of 5 rounds. Each round ends when one player kills the other. Whoever wins 3 rounds first, wins. This is the game mode that we’ll be showing at GDC. The duel mode takes place in a smaller arena and will have fewer AI camps.
